AUDI RACE HERO GETS SPARKLY NEW A4

Following his extraordinary feats over the course of the 2012 Bridgestone Production Car Championship, Audi South Africa has handed over a new Audi A4 to Michael Stephen at an event held on Monday at Audi Centre Port Elizabeth.

Piloting the superb Audi S4 quattro, Michael dominated the championship for a second consecutive year and has successfully defended the title he won in 2011. In the process he has firmly established himself as one of the best drivers in South African Motorsport history.

To further highlight his dominance, Port Elizabeth native Michael came into the final race weekend having successfully defended his title with an unassailable 52 point lead in the championship over his nearest rival; having secured the championship at the penultimate race weekend of 2012.

“Michael Stephen has proven himself to be an outstanding racing driver in South Africa and as Audi; we will continue to stand behind him as he strives for even more achievements and accolades in 2013. This handover of a new Audi A4 shows our commitment to excellence and we wish Michael all the best for the 2013 season”, added Ryan Searle, Head of Audi South Africa.

Michael Stephen has long been one of South Africa’s premier drivers; with 11 Eastern Province Championships, 7 Regional Eastern Cape and Border Championships, 6 National Karting Championships, 3 National Saloon Car Championships and finished 3rd in the International World Karting Championships. In 2008, 2009 and 2010, Michael finished 3rd in the Production car Championship in Class A before winning it for the first time in 2011. Michael was awarded Provincial Motorsport Colours in 1992 and Protea Colours in 2003 (Highest award possible).

“It has been a fantastic two seasons in 2011 and 2012. We will certainly be going all out for a hat-trick of championships in 2013, and with the support of Engen, Tsogo Sun, Terry Moss Racing and Audi, this dream could become a reality. I am proud to represent the Audi brand and would like to thank them for their continued support and commitment,” says Michael Stephen.
